PCC LION MAJID KHAN AND TEAM VISIT TO KILIMANJARO

Measles & Rubella Campaign Project Coordinator Lion PCC/PDG Abdul Majid Khan and PDG Wilson N. Ndesanjo together  Mr. Benjamin from the US witnessed three different vaccination centres within Kilimanjaro region to ensure resources and funds have been used appropriately by the government and vaccinations are given to as many children as possible. 

They were escorted by Region Chairperson Lion Balraj Matharu and Club President Lion Julian Jones with his team of Moshi Kibo on the 23.10.14. 

Lions gave water and sweets to all the children worth TZS 500,000/- at Msandaka dispensary, Majengo dispensary and Pasua dispensary.

SUMMARY OF THE ROAD TO A SUCCESSFUL MEASLES RUBELLA CAMPAIGN IN TANZANIA


1. The Campaign unfolded in July 2014. Project Coordinator Lion Abdul Majid Khan announced core team and members of the MRI campaign in Tanzania.
2. Blog (mritanzania.blogspot.com) was set up to inform Lion members of the current events taking place.
3. Budget was approved for implementation of the exercise.
4. Meetings with Ministry of Health and Social Welfare were carried out in order to establish Lions role in the campaign. Ministry pointed out that they would include an integrated plan by providing medicines for deworming and preventing Elephantiasis in adults.
5. Lions were asked to carry out Advocacy, Communications and Social Mobilisation (ASSM) jointly with other stakeholders including GAVI Alliance, Red Cross, LDS Charities, UNICEF, USAID and WHO. Guidelines for the exercise are established.
6. Lions carry out Orientation meeting to sensitise all Lion Convenors on 14th August 2014. Meeting takes place at Quality Plaza.
7. Lions are asked to sustain the programme at Regional Levels through ACSM education they received at the Orientation. Lions representation in Dar es Salaam, Morogoro, Tanga, Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Mwanza and Shinyanga confirm steadfast support.
8. IEC material, T-shirts, banners and funds are sent to all upcountry clubs and regions to ensure ACSM is carried out as planned.
9. Social Mobilisation was enhanced at regional level through Roadshows and Street Criers. Lions stick posters and give out fliers at street and house levels.
10. Billboards create awareness.
11. On 12th October Leos join hands to sensitization of affluent areas of Dar es Salaam.
12. All Lion Convenors meet Regional Administration Secretary, Regional Medical Officers and District Medical Officers and officials in their respective Municipalities so as to set up a joint effort.
13. Core team carry out media drive from 6th October by going public through Radio, Televised programmes and Newspapers.
14. MRI launch was carried out on 18th October at National Level in Dodoma by Minister of Health, Hon. Seif. Core team attends the launch and speaks to the august gathering on Lions role and support.
15. Launch in respective regions are carried out simultaneously. However, Dar es Salaam invites Dr. Mengi to officiate their Launch on 20th October.
16. Clubs all over the country provided a great support to the initiative.
17. Turnout recorded at all centres confirm a very good response. MOHSW promised to provide statistics after completion of the campaign on 24th October.

PROJECT COORDINATOR PCC LION MAJID KHAN AND TEAM VISIT ARUSHA TO LAUNCH MRI CAMPAIGN ON 21ST OCTOBER

On 21st October 2014, PCC Lion Khan, IPDG Lion Wilson and Humanitarian Grants Manager Mr. Benjamin Futransky visited Arusha to launch MRI Campaign. 
The Launch was also witnessed by PDG Lion Satish and ZC Lion Stella together with other Arusha Club members.

LION DR. HUSSEIN AND LION BABUL CARRY OUT RANDOM ASSESSMENT AND MOTIVATION TRIP

Co-Convenor Lion Dr. Hussein and Member of the Core Committee Lion Babul carried out assessment of various centres randomly in the Districts of Ilala and Temeke.

Their assignment comprised of assessing the centres, vaccination drive, response and related work. They reported that each centre had a very good response of both children and adults. Approximate number of patients received  per centre ranged from 250 to 700 Adults and about 300 children per day.

"The Road shows, Street Criers, Media and IEC material effectively sensitized the general public," said Lion Hussein.

MZIZIMA CLUB COVERS SCHOOLS IN THE SUBURBAN AREA OF TEMEKE AND ILALA

Attached please find the proof for distribution of MRI  awareness as per Lions Club of Dar es Salaam Mzizima's commitment during one of the Lions fraternity meeting chaired by Lion Shiraz Rashid the Region Chairperson

2 Lumumba Primary School
3 Kigogo Fresh Primary School
4 Moro Primary School
5Kalakata Primery School
6 Majani ya Chai Secondary School
7 Majani ya Chai Primery School
8 Air Wing Primary School
9 Minazi Mrefu Primary School

The 2nd part could not be obtained for the following schools  at  Kilwa
Road Temeke, Kongowe apx 12-15 kilometers from city center  after Saba Saba ground  towards Mtoni, after Tanita .It has student population as follows

1)Kongowe Shule ya Msing 1887 students,

2)Upendo Shule ya Msingi 1888 student

3) Mzinga Shule ya msingi 1924 student

 Two teams employed by the club to facilitate this distribution activity. The headteachers  were given the sets of books and  the programme. Caps and t shirts were presented as motivation and the posters were displayed at the school compound.

PWANI CLUB VISIT SCHOOLS AND STICK BANNERS ALL OVER THE 3 MUNICIPALITIES

The Club was led by its Convenor Lion Rafiq Ghartey. The posters were stuck in various location in Oyster bay, Masaki, Msasani, Kinondoni Road, Kimweri Road and Morroco Road. 15 mosques in Segerea, 1 Mosque in Msasani and 1 mosque in Mgeni Nani, Mbagala Mwisho were also covered.
